What is hazing?
For many years, senior students have subjected newcomer students to hazing activities upon their arrival at the university. This period should be a time for connection, learning, friendship, and enjoyment. Unfortunately, it can sometimes turn into a space for the perpetuation of physical or psychological violence.
As a result, hazing is strictly prohibited at UFSC under Resolution No. 017/CUN/9730 of September 1997:
Art. 127 – Any hazing activity involving coercion or physical or psychological aggression is prohibited on the premises of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.
When activities are genuinely fun, they should be fun for everyone involved. If you witness or experience hazing, report it to the Ombuds Office.
